A yet-to-be-identified armed organization operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo is plotting to discredit Operation Shujaa, which is focused at wiping out Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) extremists.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Congolese army (FARDC) claimed in a joint statement that the armed group intended to use the UPDF uniform to commit atrocities against people and blame the Ugandan army instead.

According to the combined forces statement, this evil hidden strategy is purposefully designed to disrupt the operation against the ADF.

The statement dated January 10, was signed by Brig. Flavia Byekwaso, the UPDF spokesperson, and her counterpart, Maj. Gen. Leon-Richard Cibangu Kasonga on behalf of FARDC.

“The FARDC and the UPDF seek to inform the public that they have vital information about the existence, in the region where they lead military operations, of a terrorist organization”, of an armed group harboring sinister clandestine plans deliberately intended to sabotage the joint military action against the ADF active in the East of DR Congo and discredit operation Shujaa,” the joint statement said.
