Murders in Masaka and Lwengo escalate, death toll reaches 26.

Machete wielding assailants continue to stand-tall over security as more get murdered in the last couple of days in the greater Masakaregion. murders death toll reaches 26 in 1 month.

In his condolences to the family of fallen Lt General Paul Lokech Yoweri Kaguta  Museveni assured the country that his government will defeat the ‘rebels’ who have distorted the tranquility of the Country. The president revealed that some of the assaliants had been arrested by the police.

Despite the presidential assurance, the situation is getting no better as the country woke up to two more murders on Sunday. Henry Kirembe, 81 and Maria Nakato, 78 from Nyendo Mukungwe division, Masaka City are the latest victims of the Machete wielding assailants bringing the death toll to 29.

Last week, the UPDF was deployed in a joint security task force with the police to tighten security and intensify patrol operations, but the move has momentarily not yielded positive results.

Fred BamwineMasaka City Resident City Commissioner attributed the murders to the failure to adhere to the curfew directives by the people.

Opposition strong man and NUP president Kyagulanyi Sentamu Robert criticized government for incompetence in handling security matters in the region.
