Hon.Kyagulanyi Robert Sentamu aka Bobi Wine hosted several artistes at his home in Magere on Saturday. Observably, the 20 artists in attendance were those that supported Bobi Wine in his presidential bid in the just concluded presidential elections.
The details of what was discussed remain concealed but this was a clear gesture by Bobi Wine to counter the so called Gulu project which he has vehemently denounced and disregarded.
Last month, a couple of artists led by veteran musician Dr. Jose Chameleon went to Gulu to meet Gen. Salim Saleh President Museveni‘s young brother and Coordinator Operation Wealth Creation and apparently received billions of money.
Bobi Wine was so disappointed with this move branding his fellow artists ‘beggars’ whom he claims went to ask for money. He questioned the role of a military general in solving the problems in the arts industry claiming it’s a move by the State to turn artists into beggars.
The former legislator also slammed the current Uganda Musician’s Association (UMA) leadership for propagating Saleh‘s interest of destroying the Music industry in this country. Some artists seen at Magere on Saturday were Fefe Busy, Nubian li, Nina Roz, A pass, Fik fameica among others.
In a social media post after the meeting, Bobi Wine asserted that the motive of the meeting was to emphasize unity and share current challenges in the arts industry as well as finding possible solutions with stakeholders.
