Thousands attended the final send off of the “Lion of Mogadishu” amid heavy security presence following terror threats.
It was relatively a somber mood at Pipir Primary school grounds as thousands gathered to send off Lieutenant General Paul Lokech who passed away last Saturday at his home in Kira Municipality succumbing to a blood clot.
Former Somali President Sheik Ahmed attended the burial of the fallen General in Pader. Lokech was dubbed the “Lion of Mogadishu” by the Ex-Somali president due to his exceptional character when he commanded troops in Mogadishu that defeated the Al-Shabab a terrorist outfit out of the Somali Capital.
President Museveni through a statement read by the Minister for Internal affairs Gen. Kahinda Otafiire described Gen. Lokech as a brave soldier with integrity. The President promoted Maj. Gen Paul Lokech Posthumously to the rank of Lieutenant General due to his great contribution to the country. He also promised to support the family of the fallen General.
Other mourners present were the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya who immensely praised the fallen General, the Chief Justice Owinyi Dollo, fellow Defence chief Wilson Mbaadi, Ministers, UPDF senior officers, religious leaders, Legislators among others.
The burial ceremony happened amid a tight security presence following a foiled terror plot by suspected ADF agents in Pader on Friday.
Lieutenant General Paul Lokech was sent off with a 15 gun salute in full respect as a senior army officer.
