North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur had a warm-up match at Tottenham Stadium on Sunday for a “friendly” match, part of The Mind Series that also included Chelsea, with proceeds from the game going to charity before the 2021/22 Premier League season begins. It was spurs that claimed bragging rights of the city.
The lonely goal was scored by Heung-min Son in 79th minute after Dele Alli had earlier twice hit the post. This was a big confidence boost for the squad and the new manager Nuno Espirito Santo amid ongoing uncertainty over Harry Kane’s furutre at Spurs as the striker looks to join Manchester City.
It was the final match in The Mind Series — a campaign competition between Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea organized to promote better mental health — with Spurs drawing 2-2 at Chelsea on Wednesday after Chelsea had beaten Arsenal 2-1 at Emirates Stadium last weekend.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta partnered Albert Sambi Lokonga, an £18 million signing from Anderlecht, with Granit Xhaka in midfield and Ben Davies commanding the defense thus gave them the control of the game in the first half.
Arsenal will open up their new season by visiting the promoted Brentford on Friday, 13, August while spurs will host Manchester city on Sunday 15, August at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
