Expect more sanctions Bobi Wine warns Museveni after US sanctions .

     The United States government on Friday April 16th 2021, through its secretary of State, Antony John Blinken announced sanctions over some Ugandan government officials and other individuals who undermined human rights during the 2021 January 14th general elections.  

Kyagulanyi Robert ssentamu the former Presidential candidate who also doubles as the Principal for “National Unity Platform” publically known as “Bobi Wine” came out and said that he appreciates the US government for reigning in on Ugandan officials who interfered with the recent elections.

“The statement by the US is an important recognition that the recent elections were not fee and fair. It sends an unequivocal message that although Gen Museveni boasts of controlling all Ugandan institutions that would call him to account, the world is watching and is beginning to act”- Kyagulanyi said.

The US government secretary of State, Antony J Blinken said there has been an increased downward trajectory for the country’s democratic credentials, adding that this was experienced in the 2021 elections, according to the runners-up in the January 14th elections, despite these human rights violations, government has gone silent, adding that the US government sanctions have aged at the right time.

 However it’s on record that NUP principal is at log heads, H.E Yoweri Kaguta museveni’s government following his recent actions. Kyagulanyi’s camp has suffered most of the brutality after the elections the public is still puzzled about his (Kyagulanyi) next move after all his legal avenues failing.

In regards to the sanctions, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem said “the government is not moved by the sanctions. It is unfortunate that the US is punishing individuals in Uganda wrongly without having real proof beyond doubt that they are the causers of those allegations. Those allegations were responded to by the government of Uganda and we expected the US government and others to have respected our response”.

Further details are yet to merge about the sanctions.
